This internship is suitable for high school students aged 15 years and older who are exploring careers in law and planning to pursue related university or college courses. It is also ideal for students who have completed high school and are looking for internship opportunities to gain practical experience in the legal field.

What will you be learning in this internship?

Day 1: Introduction to Legal Departments (AM) and Client Services (PM)

In the morning, interns will explore the types and functions of various legal departments and their role in upholding justice and providing legal services. They will examine both specialised legal departments and non-legal support departments that contribute to the effective functioning of the legal system. In the afternoon, interns will delve into client services within the legal profession, focusing on legal consultations.

Day 2: Criminal Law (AM)  and Corporate Law (PM)

In the morning, interns will be introduced to criminal law, including key legal processes involved in exploring a criminal case. They will learn about crime categorization, the role of evidence, defense and prosecution strategies. In the afternoon, they will explore corporate law, which governs business formation, transactions, and compliance.

Day 3: Personal Injury Law (AM) and Family Law (PM)

In the morning, interns will study personal injury law, which deals with cases where individuals are harmed due to negligence or wrongdoing. In the afternoon, interns will focus on family law, which addresses legal matters such as divorce, child custody, and domestic violence. They will examine how family lawyers handle petitions, custody arrangements, and financial settlements.

Day 4: Immigration Law (AM) and Employment Law (PM)

In the morning, interns will learn about immigration law, which regulates visas, residency, citizenship, and asylum. In the afternoon, interns will be introduced to employment law, focusing on employee rights, workplace safety, discrimination prevention, and employment contracts.

Day 5: Reflection (AM) and Final Assessment (PM)

In the morning, interns will reflect on their experiences throughout the internship. They will choose one legal specialisation that resonates with them, conduct further research, and write a 300-word reflection explaining why this area of law is important. In the afternoon, interns will complete a final assessment quiz with 25 multiple-choice questions covering all the topics studied during the internship. A pass mark of 80% is required, and interns will have the opportunity to retake the quiz if necessary.

Certification

This internship meets international standards to reflect the diverse landscape of law as a global discipline. Upon successful completion, interns will receive a certificate of participation as proof of their internship.
